Hello. My question is probably a repeat but I couldn't find any similar questions being asked as I searched through the forums. I apologize if this is a repeat.
I have a friend who recently purchased a brand new home. She has been complaining about noise (clicking and popping) coming from her duct work after the furnace kicks off. I explained to her that the noise is most probably the metal from the furnace and duct work expanding and contracting from the warm air. She insists that it is something more. She also told me that she tried covering the returns in various rooms to see if it made a difference. The sounds were not as loud. Is there any other possible cause of these noises? Why is it that some homes don't seem to have these noises but others do? Any suggestions are most appreciated. Please help.
Home style: ranch Furnace: new Fuel: natural gas Location: michigan (furnace in basement) 2 stage blower
Thanks!

It most likely is just the ductwork. Covering up the returns just shows it. New homes are as bad if not worse in a lot of cases for this kind of thing vs. old homes. Reason being that new homes are made of fairly thin/ cheap materials allowing a lot of sound transfer. She will get used to it and in another year wont even hear the noises.
