Hello, I am having trouble hooking up this new thermostat that I purchased. I previously had a Totaline thermostat that was hooked up as follows: W=white O=no wire connected G=Green R=Red C=Black Y=Yellow
There are some extra wires that were stuck behind the thermostat, one black, one orange, and one blue. Thank You in advance for your help.

The exact way you removed the old one W-white R-red (if there are two R's eg. Rc+Rh,then jumper both with the red wire) G-green Y-yellow C-if the new t-stat doen't have a C terminal, then no hook up is required. Either disconnect the C wire at your furnace or just easier to tape it up. Turn off power to furnace first But the best advice that I can give you is return the Hunter and buy a quality t-stat like Honeywell or White rogers.
Site is great to educate yourself but make the call to a PRO when it needs fixing.

I agree. Rc/R = red C = black Y1 = yellow W1 = white G = green

I tried that, and no luck. Any other suggestions? Could I have shorted something? I have one of the digital multimeters that I could use to test it if needed. Do I need to wait more than the suggested 4 minutes? Thanks again.

Note the Tip Of The Day.
If you failed to remove power to your furnace before replacing your thermostat, you probably poped your low voltage 3 or 5 amp fuse. If you don't have a fuse, you probably need a transformer.
An easy test is touching the red and green wires together. If the fan doesn't run, check your unit for a popped fuse.

I tried the red and green and no fan came on. When we originally took the thermostat off we turned off the circuit in the garage that powered up the thermostat. I did not think of if it powered up the heater also. That was probably our issue. I went into the attic to check the system for a popped fuse or any switches but found nothing. Here is a pic of what I found.
Thanks again.

Do you have a heat pump or a gas FAU w/air conditioning? Make, model, size?

I have an apollo heat system, it is one of those that heats up water and blows the hot air around from that. It uses natural gas.

The water, is it refrig? If so, put the o/b on the w. Then DIP/sub DIP the t-stat to the hook. Then DIP/sub DIP back-up to NG or electric? Jump the RH/RC. If it blows thank god it's not 1/28/86...! Good Luck Mike

The only part I understood about that was to jump the RH/RC. There was no O connected to move to the W. Should I use the orange line?
My heat is natural gas and my AC is electric. I don't know what DIP/sub DIP means....
Gosh, I had no idea changing a thermostat would be so difficult. Now it is freezing in my house and even the old thermostat doesn't work. If no luck by the end of the day I will call my favorite HVAC guy to come out and fix it up for me tomorrow.

No, you do not have a heat pump. Do not use the orange wire.

So what should I do? Obviously I blew some sort of fuse, where could I find it to replace. If you could see the picture, would it be in there? I searched all around and didn't find anything. Thanks again.

Try a drop light with your camera phone. That picture is black. Measure for line voltage going into your transformer and 24VAC on the secondary side.
