I have a Carrier high efficiency gas furnace, Model 58DXC, with a failed secondary (condensing) heat exchanger. Can anyone help me with the removal and installation procedure?

You dont replace "just the secondry" its a whole unit not ment to be seperated.

Thanks acefurnacefxr for your candid reply. The purpose of my query was to determine how complex the job would be. I have examined how the two heat exchangers, primary (PHE) and secondary/condensing (CHE), are installed in the furnace after having removed the blower motor. This gave the chance to view the two exchanges from below. My preliminary conclusion is that the condensing heat exchanger (CHE)can be removed independently of the primary heat eschanger (PHE)through the front of the furnace. The CHE appears to be an entirely separate unit from the PHE and it is fastened to the front of the furnace with sheet metal screws. It would help a lot if I had access to pictures of the two exchanges or any other form of information concerning them. Access to a discarded furnace would also be a solution.

Carrier settled a class action lawsuit about some of their furnaces like that one. Check with a Carrier dealer, they may now pay for the labor and give you a new heat exchanger.

Thanks Yuri for your answer. I was in contact with a carrier dealer last week but he did not advise me of a class action having been either initiated or settled. Perhaps Carrier Corporation is advising the dealers not to volunteer any information in this regard. Is there any independent source where I can get more details?

Here ya go champ.
Have fun trying that yourself. If you can even get ahold of the parts. My cost on that secondary heat exchanger (what Carrier charged me) was over $800. Lucky I had a warranty claim form. To set the record straight, Carrier has NOT instructed it's Factory Authorized Dealers to keep mum on the subject. In fact, if you've previously had a warranty claim on that furnace, you should have recieved a letter from Carrier laying out the situation. You would be foolish IMO to replace the secondary only and not the primary, regardless of how easy it might appear to be.
How you doing tonite, Yuri?

Not bad. Cold as hell here. Went down to -30 degF last nite. Up to -7 tomorrow. Finding it hard to train my 2 apprentices. Feel like Obi Wan Kenobi with 2 young Skywalkers. Easier to do the servicecalls myself. Real hard for the young guys to get up to speed in this biz. LOTS to know and must be scary/intimidating to look at/work on the expensive high end units. At least they have someone to train them. Lots of them get thrown to the wolves with other companies.

Right on. It was a balmy 23 degrees here today. -7 is ... yup, pretty doggone cold. What do yall up there do to keep your toes from freezing off, the ground must get to be terribly cold? Them new high end furnaces sure do have a lot of technology packed in there, it can sometimes be kinda confusing for a guy with experience. Someday I hope to have an apprentice. Keep up the good work, the newbs need guys like you.

Wear 2 pair of socks and waffle underwear. Not too bad as long as it is not windy. The wind chill is nasty.
Cheers

You will have to check the warranty info that usually is with the installation and owners manual at the back or your bill of sale. Some furnaces have 20 yr heat ex warranties and some have lifetime depending on how it was sold/marketed. Usually the lifetime one is for the original owner only and 20 yrs for subsequent owners. Lennox does theirs that way. There were so many of them Carriers that failed that consumers got together and sued for the labor cost to install it. Normally the labor is not covered.
