Hello

I have an old thermostat for a conventional heater which I am replacing with the TH8320U thermostat from Honeywell. The old thermostat only has two wires coming into it from the wall, one red and one black. When these wires are connected together, the heater turns on. So, all I need the TH8320U to do is create a circuit when the heater is supposed to turn on as per the programmed schedule. I cannot seem to find the right combination of connections on the TH8320U to get this to work. Can anyone please advise? Thank you so kindly.

Thanks much

Jason

Have you tried attaching them to the W and R terminals of the new thermostat?

Connect red to R and white to W.
Set option 170 to 3.

Thank you very much for your reply. I did attach the white wire to "w" and the red wire to "r" and set option 170 to 3. The unit still does not turn on my heater. I have a 2 wire system which I know works. If I touch the two wires together, the unit turns on. When I go to test mode on the thermostat and try to turn the heat on, I can hear a switch in the thermostat clicking, but the heat does not turn on. Any other suggestions? I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong at this point. Thanks for your assistance!

Thanks much

Jason

Be sure that you have properly installed your batteries and jumpered Rc and R.

It is also possible that your wires are reversed at the furnace.

Hello

Thank you all for your advice. I have followed all of these instructions, connecting the red and white wires of my 2-wire system as indicated below and in the installation guide. I have also set function 170 to 3 and replaced the batteries and made sure that the furnace wires are not reversed. When I go to test mode, the furnace still does not go on when I turn the test to 1 which should turn it on. I can hear something clicking inside the thermostat when I switch from 1 to 0 in test mode, but it is not making the circuit that it should. Might anyone have any other suggestions as to what I might do to get this thermostat working? Thanks again for your help.

Thanks much

Jason
