I am replacing my upstairs Janitrol HPT 18-60 thermostat w/ the Honeywll RTH7400 programmable thermostat. The wires on the Janitrol are Y (yellow), G (green), R (red), O (orange), W2 (white), E (brown), & C (blue). These wires match up w/ the install diagram for alternate wiring (for heat pumps only). The problem is, I don't think I have a heat pump. I've checked Goodman units outside (CKL 42-1A & CPLE 24-1A) and my GMT power vented multi-position gas furnace inside and I haven't seen anything that says heat pump. So here are my questions:

1. Did I use the right wiring diagram guide?

2. If not, which should I use since the typical install and the alternate install for a conventional system doesn't reflect the E wire (does Y2=E?) and I don't have a W wire (does W=O).

3. When programming, what should I select for system type? I'm guessing 8, conventional multi-stage system (but I used the heat pump diagram, hence my dilemma)

If the Y2=E and the O=W then it appears I wired it correctly, but used the wrong page (ie, heat pump page instead of the typical install page). If they don't equal each other then I most likely will have to redo. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance and great site. Richard

The CKL42 is straight cooling (and probably your downstairs since it's a 3 1/2 ton).

The CPLE24 is a heat pump and probably your upstairs.

C = blue
G = green
Y = yellow
O/B = orange
Rc & R = red
Aux = white
E = brown

option 170 = 7
option 190 = 0

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Sweet. I guess I wired it correctly, but didn't set the options up right. I will correct it now. Thanks for the quick response!
