I have recently taken a new job and one of my responsibilities is to look into monitoring energy efficiency of HVAC systems in large office buildings. Can anyone give me some ideas on what I could start looking at?

What are they, gas, electric, geothermal?
Also are these package units like in the roof or what?

Yes, you need to give a lot more information, you have boilers? VAV systems, BAS system?
