Ok I have a mold problem and while we are getting it removed I want to have a clean air system installed. My local Lennox dealers are telling me different things.. one has recommended that we get the Lennox HC 16 system and also install a Lennox UV 500 he says that it will be cheeper then the PureAir and it does the same thing. The other dealer says that the PureAir system works better to clean the mold.
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the two systems in practicality? the cost difference is significant ~1000 between going with the seprate systems or the PureAir.. i would like to save some money but not at the expenses of my health!
Thanks,
Liz

I HAVE A PUREAIR SYSTEM IN MY HOME AND HAVE STUDIED INDOOR AIR QUALITY AND AIR PURIFIERS QUITE A BIT. THE PUREAIR AND HC16 UNITS BOTH HAVE MERV 16 FILTERS IN THEM WHICH REMOVE A MINIMUM OF 95% OF PARTICLES DOWN TO .3 MICRONS. WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT THE UV500 LIGHT WILL KILL THINGS IN THE AIRSTREAM THAT ARE ALIVE MUCH LIKE THE PUREAIR, THE PUREAIR ALSO HAS A TITANIUM DIOXIDE CATALYST SCREEN THAT REACTS WITH THE UV LIGHT AND CREATS PHOTO-CATALYTIC OXIDATION. THIS PROCESS BREAKS DOWN HARMFUL VOC'S AND CHEMICALS IN THE AIRSTREAM AND PURIFIES THE AIR TO A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER LEVEL. BOTH THE MAYO CLINIC AND THE ASTHMA AND ALLERGY FOUNDATION SAY THE PUREAIR SYSTEM CLEANS THE AIR IN YOUR HOME BETTER THAN ANY OTHER SYSTEM YOU CAN BUY. IT'S WORTH THE MONEY. PS. BOTH THESE SYSTEMS WILL MAKE MOST OF YOUR DUSTING GO AWAY.

I don't know the lennox systems at all but basically you want a system that filters down to 0.3microns. That micron level will be sure to get all the spores that come along with the air. Personally I recommend hepa filters for my customers with Asthma or any other breathing issues because the system is out of the heating loop so does not effect your heating or cooling and it filters to .3microns which is computer lab quality. The salesman may try to hit you with merv ratings which piss me off its just another rating system that some dork engineer came up with to confuse things instead of just saying what micron level it filters to.
