I have a York Diamond 80 that has stopped heating the house. When I observe the unit after shuting the power off and back on, it glows then the burners fire, but after only a few seconds, the burners shut down. It repeats this process a few times than stops. Any suggestions? Obviously I am not a furnace expert, but can usually fix most things that require basic mechanical skills.

In front of the burner furthest from the igniter, you will see a flame sensing rod. It probably has a purple wire to it. You need to clean the metal rod beyond the porcelain with fine steel wool, or a Scotch brite pad.
