My 9 year old Trane xl-80 2-speed blower won't kick in without help by spinning the blower fan. It did squeek, but not all the time. It just started the starting trouble this morning. I am hoping that it isn't the blower motor since it looks complicated to take out (lots of wires in the way). Could it be the starter motor? That is what is hooked on the side and is the size about two rolls of quarters wrapped together, right?

That unit is a capacitor and it may be the problem. It will give you a heck of a zap if you don't discharge it B4 removing it. Should have a rating IE: 5 mfd/370 VAC or more. Shut off furnace power, put some leather gloves on, touch one terminal of it with a screwdriver to the housing to discharge it. May be available at Graingers?
