I have a trane heat pump / furnace system with the following terminals on the thermostat.
T,G,Y,X2,B,W,O,R

I plan to replace the T-stat with the RTH8500D. Do you agree this is a good match? Anything to look out for?

tlh

Be sure to remove power to your air handler before replacing your thermostat, to avoid damaging your transformer.
My diagram shows the most common Terminal = color combination. Write down your wire combination before removing any wires.

Trane = Honeywell
G = G
Y = Y
X2 = E
B = C
W = Aux
O = O/B
R = Rc & R

Tape off your tan wire. Todays thermostats do not require a thermistor for proper operation. (And do not support them)

You must also onfigure your themostat to match your system.
option 170 = 7
option 190 = 0

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
