I am looking to replace this thermostat (taystat241) with a digital version. I have a Trane XL 1100 and I was told that its a 2 stage heat and 1 stage cool unit.

What is the best digital replacement thermostat for this type of setup and how should I wire it?

Honeywell RTH7500 at lowes (99.00), or Honeywell VisionPro TH8000 (135.00) Recommended. There are other brands but stay with honeywell.

I agree with Amech. Those 2 are your best choices.
The Visionpro may be harder to get without going through a contractor. The Visionpro TH8320 and TH8320 will support your 2 stage system.
