I have Carrier HVAC system and the problem is that when the Heating is on the thermostat shuts down and the screen goes blank. The furnace and the blower continues to run and the house gets over heated. It happens every few hours and the thermostat stays shut for 5 to 15 minutes. When is comes back the time starts blinking.

Sounds like a limit switch tripping. If you have a Carrier furnace, go look through the peep hole in the blower door at the LED on the board, bet it will be flashing a #33 fault code when your thermostat goes blank.

Sounds more like a thermostat issue to me. If it were a limit the blower should stay running but the flame should shut down. Does the thermostat have batteries?
If in doubt call a pro !
