I have a comfortmaker furance that does everything it
should do for a while then shuts down then restarts
only to shutdown again. the led flashes seven times to a count
of four then flashes seven time for a few cycles then the
unit shuts down.

Just look behind the front door for the codes...
7 flashes means the high limit is open for too long.
It could be the limit is worn out and sticking open.
Take out your plugged air filter if it is dirty.

ah comfortmaker. Check around either in the furnace or in the furnace manual to see what those codes indicate. You most likely have it going off on a safety.
