"Neighboring Homes With System Starting Issues" , posted Mon 11 Feb 20:06user profileedit/delete messagepost reply

Good Evening All,

This morning my wife and I noticed that our 5 year old Lennox C33 did not start when the thermostat should call for it to start. In otherwords... we have it set at 71, at 69 degrees it usually kicks on and it didn't.

I told her it should kick on maybe when it hits 68... so I left for work. She said after I left she turned the temperature up to 74 to see if it would kick on immediately. She said it didn't but about 10 minutes later it kicked on... so she turned the temp back down to 71.

When it came time to come on again, the furnace did not fire... and she turned it up to 74 and about another 10 or 15 minutes later it kicked on again and has been fine ever since.

Fast forward.

I then called my neighbor to chat on the way home from work and he tells me he has the same problem as well. He said he turned his up and nothing happened in 3 or 4 minutes so he just switches it off and then on again.

Is it not a bit odd for both houses to be having a problem?

Also, if it is a coincidence, what could be the problem? Since it is working my error codes are normal.

It was very cold here last night... maybe down to 8-10 degrees.

Thanks for any help

BTW, you might want to re post this question in the Residential forum. You'll probably get more response there.

Unusual? Yes. And no. If you're turning it off then back on you are resetting the system and losing any error code that may have been displayed. Some newer model furnaces have retrievable error codes but I won't even try and explain to you on how to figure that out. Next time it locks out, do not do anything until you go to the furnace and see it the LED(s) are flashing a code. Come back here if you get the code and post the make and model of your unit(s) along with the code observed and someone here will probably be able to assist you. It's a bit odd that both you and your neighbor are experiencing this same problem, but not unheard of. Let me ask you this; how long has it been since you (and neighbor) have had the furnace serviced? Ever? Have you checked your filters? It could be something as simple as a dirty flame sensor, which requires routine maintenance. It could be something differenrt altogether. Observe more closely and get back to us. We are all here to help and love a challenge. If I can't help you, someone here will. Yuri is the Lennox man. If he sees your post, he will probably reply.

Ok, just to be clear, I have no reset my system. My wife just turned up the thermostat, lol.

My neighbor is the one who keeps resetting it.

This system came new with my home we had built, as my neighbor also built his home next to me at the time.

Our homes are 5 1/2 years old.

I gave him the lowdown on the codes and I'm keeping an eye out as well.

He has our local gas company coming to look at it tomorrow, but I doubt he'll get any information as it is working right now

We have not ever serviced them. I have changed the filter regularly as well as he.

When you say Lennox C33 I'm assuming this is a gas furnace? I am not familar with this number. Does the furnace have a hot surface ignitor (like a glow plug) for ignition? If so, there should be a flame sensor located on the opposite end of the burners from where the ignitor is located. If it's been over 5 years without these units being serviced I'm suprised you haven't had issues before this. And certainly the flame sensor will need to be cleaned. This may very well be your problem (and your neighbor's as well). But 5 1/2 years??? I urge you to have your furnace professionaly serviced asap. You may have other problems lying in wait.
