I have a Rheem Criterion. I got up this morning to a cold house. I have never had any problems with the furnace in the past. All the filters are clean. I checked the furnace and noticed that it was not igniting. I could tell the gas was coming on but it would not ignite. I have seen a lot of posts about possible problems from the flame sensor to an inner thermal limit valve. I am not a tech but I am good with technical things. However, I have no clue what is what on a furnace. If someone could walk me through some check lists as well as give me some details about what i am looking at, I would much appreciate it. The model number is: RGDG-12EARJR Thanks, Dave

Does this furnace use a spark ignitor or a hot surface ignitor as the ignition source?

Again, I'm not exactly sure what I am looking at:
its a box on the gas line and it has a brown nob on top that you can switch from on to off etc.
When the gas comes on I hear a "snap" so I am guessing spark ignitor.

I have seen alot of those gas valves that are over fired, and the regulator adjustment is faulty. I would make sure the manifold pressure is set correctly.

I looked past the gas valve and saw a furnace that hasn't had a lot of attention and need a good cleaning and testing of the system...could be a bad gas valve, but from afar, none of us can do anything but guess.
