Mr. Northern Fitter, Thanks for the advise, Like wise I don't understand some of your postings either. I don't want a feud.
By the way, I'm not a full blown HVAC/R mechanic, I'm a CSLB Licensed General Building Contractor (means in California I can build and do any trade personally on or in 3 story buildings or less, as long as my contract/work order includes at least 3 trades) My work in high rises has further limitations. It was set up that way a long time ago by the legislature, for the consumer, and the unions for work protection. ie the plumber does the gas, the carpenter cuts the sheetmetal man's holes, headouts and builds the furnace platform, the sheetmetal guy does the heat system, gutters, flashings, pans, etc. We used to have tight unions out here. Not any more. I was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 35 San Rafael. CA. for 9 years. Been in business now 31 years. I usually sub out HVAC/R, but under my license, I could legally perform the work myself. Kind of funny, but that's the way it is. I have helped people on this site and have been thanked for it. Thank you. Peace DW

Other than the computer questions post which was meant to come off as a joke and came off dreadfully wrong I stand by what I have posted on this site. I think it is incredibly dangerous that Joe Blo can buy a furnace in some states and install it himself while plugging it in to an outlet. If you had seen what I have seen in this industry you would probably agree. For every long time tradesman like yourself that can follow a set of instructions and install a furnace there are probably quite a few that would think they can do it and put themselves and there neighbours at great risk. As far as the rest of the posts they are mostly self explanatory and I dont see anything wrong. The PQ one was also confusing and shows I shouldn't post late at night when I am half in the bag. And it was a General welcome to Canada and a warning that he was going to face a lot of bureaucracy up here. It's a fact. The trade regulations in the HVAC industry are extremely strict up here and one can get burned pretty bad by fines and such if they don't make sure they are registered and licensed for everything and anything they touch. I am just a young buck at 35 years but have been in this trade since finishing a 2 year course in college for it at 20 and have been posting on this site not to spread my opinion or to come down hard on people but to help people if I can. I got raged at for a stupid post, then the next post I read you are raging at another tech and making wild claims about mark ups from major manufacturers that are baseless. It surprised me because turning on experienced techs who have info to offer on this site seems a little counter productive. All and all thats the danger of chat boards is people tendencies to missunderstand others intentions and to blow up about it. I have no ill will towards anyone on here yourself included and was just generally blown away at the attacks.

Fitter, I try not to post to questions I know nothing about, but have been guilty of that. I have made erronious posts, and upon review, made corrections, retractions or apologies. I made a couple of post, a few months back while drinking, and was ashamed the next day.
When an HVAC tech on this site makes blanket factually unsupported statments bashing some product line, it pisses me off, and that is when I resort to "ranting" as you call it.
I have seen problematic posts on this site from "experienced techs" which are just flat wrong: Illogical diagnostic sequences; failure to base advice on information submitted in question; failure to recognize and formulate simple solutions; factually incorrect statements, ie x model thermostat won't work with y model system; insults to educated DIYers; misunderstanding of basic principals.

I am interested in HVAC systems, I have some formal training in AutoCad as well. I am in the process of enrolling in an HVAC Certifcate program at California State University Hayward. My local Community College offers courses in "motor math" and "introduction to electronic circuits" and am filling out the paper work as we speak. Never too old to learn, unless I ['m a] "know it all" Dan C. Oh, and thanks for helping me with my PR skills.

I was not even refering to your posts. That reference to incorrect information, involved another man's post.
You scolded me one time and I deserved it. I try not to answer any more t-stat questions about models I don't understand.
You know as well as I do, that you are considered the best resourse for thermostats on this site.
I'm sorry you took offence at my comments, but they were not directed at you.
I'll stay off the site for a couple days. I really need to do some chores around the house.
