I a short while ago I had a rapid on-off cycling of my Intertherm RSH-MS-065 fuel oil furnace I suspected was the T-Stat. Anyhow, I replaced said T-stat,as I kinda wanted to upgrade the appearance anyhow, and the furnace seemed to work OK the 1st couple times. Should be noted that I am in Florida so it does not get used very often or for long periods of time. Anyhow 2 days ago I turned it on to remove the night chill from house and although furnace light and ran fine I could hear the relay inside the flame control box clicking, oddly the furnace stayed lite and fan ran . Perhaps the timer portion keep it running thru the relay hiccups? Anyhow it is a White&Rogers TYPE 668-410. I "Googled" it and found a place on the web that sells it for ~150. Before I start throwing more parts at it I wanted to ask the proes they opinion. I saw there are other types of burner controls that appear to be solid state, can I upgrade my control unit?
Cheers

There is no timer portion in that control. You cannot horse around and replace those controls with other types as they have a specific flame failure timing etc etc designed for that furnace. I wouldn't buy any E-bay parts as they are usually old stock, used, freight damaged. You should get an oil tech to change the nozzle, tank filter and if the oil in the tank is old it may be going bad. Get the unit serviced properly and set with a combustion analyzer so it burns cleanly and efficiently.

I couldn't agree more with Yuri. Oil burners are not for the DIY's. It can bcome a nightmare before you know it. Lots of luck.

I understand the combustion process is not trivial and experienced techs have exhaust gas analyzers and fancy things to properly set the burn characteristics. I am no furnace tech, but not a complete novice DIY type guy either, I have a fair amount of mechanical aptitude and rebuilt lots of complex things (automatic transmissions etc.) All that being said , if I can find someone locally to fix it I am not opposed to letting somebody work on it. I understand enough about complex things to understand the cheapest/best way is to let the people to do these things for a living do it. However what I am experiencing is a ignition / relay type issue, not really associated with the burner setup, don't you agree?
