I have the Goodman GMS8 Gas unit installed 2 years ago. I returned from a business trip to find that the heater nor the AC would turn on. The Thermostat is a Hunter programmable. I has reset the the thermostat and can here the stat "click" but the inside unit never runs. I have verified power (115V all the way to the 115/24vdc transformer) into the unit and checked the target for the side covers all good. I did notice that there is a LED on the control board (B18099-26) that is off. Is this an indication of a bad control unit?

Do you have 24V from the secondary side of the transformer? Look for a small 3 or 5 amp blade (auto type) fuse in the control board of the furnace and see if it is blown. If it is, you probably have a short in the low voltage control wiring. Is the fuse is good but you have no voltage on the secondary side of the transformer, you probably have a bad transformer.

Found the fuse. Blown. Checked the 24vdc off the transformer found
0vdc which is what you will have when then is no dc current flow. Checked the entire run of low voltage wiring to and from the themostat and to the Condenser unit outside and found all wiring to be good. Put a new fuse in and it blew. I got one of the newer versions of the control pcb from a locate supply house and that fixed it. The unit actually seems to functioning better overall.

Thanks for the help.

Well I spoke to soon. After replacing the main control and the Heater began working fine but when the temp and humidity got close to bad I switched to Cool and as Emril says "BAM" the 3 amp fuse popped. I went up to the inside unit and verified that the fuse blew when setting to cool. Heat and fan only do not blow the fuse. As you recommended before I will get into the 24vdc wiring this weekend. Can a thermostat cause this issue also?
