Our Bryant Plus 90 furnace began this annoying rattle last night. It sounded like it was coming from the blower. I removed the blower and ran it outside the furnace - no more rattle. I put the blower back in and it began rattling again. I think the rattle is coming from the fins above the blower (is this a heat exchanger or condensor?). I've checked all the fins and they seem pretty solid. There is some kind of deflector plate at the back above the fins that may be a little loose and there were a couple of screws lodged between the fins. Does anyone know a quick way to fix this? Is there a place on the web I can get a parts breakdown? Thanks.

Running the blower outside of the furnace doesn't necessarily mean the noise isn't from the blower. There is no load on the blower when it is out. Chances are you need a new blower wheel. Change it to a lower speed and see what happens.

I replaced the wheel and it runs quiet again. Thanks again for the help.

I think teh blower wheel is just out of balance. There are some clip-on weights attached to some of the blades. Is there a way to re-balance the wheel or do I need to purchase a new one?

You are correct. I held a peice of cardboard over the blower (removed from the furnace) to load it and it began rattling. I'll replace the wheel. Thanks for your help.

Typical cheap Carrier (Bryant) blower wheel. I can't remember how many of these I've replaced over the years.
