I have a Comfort-Aire Conquest 80 furnace. It is a 150,000 btu model. I just bought the house it is in as a fixerupper, when i went to turn it on it did nothing as if there was no power to the furnace. I found out there was and I replaced the control board (still did nothing). After that I replaced the transformer, the furnace did turn on and lit for about 5 minutes, then it made a loud "pop" noise and it went back to no power again. I replaced the transformer a second time, it lit for about a half hour and quit again..when I went to try and light the furnace, just the middle burner tried to light and then it would quit, it tried to light a second time and then it quit again. After this happened I heard that "pop" again and no power. Any ideas what could be causing this before I keep replacing transformers?

First of all stop replacing parts. You have a dead short somewhere in your wiring whether it be the line voltage side or control side. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU CALL AN HVAC COMPANY ON THIS ONE BUT IF NOT YOU CAN START HERE. Shut off your breaker. Next do you have a multi meter? If so disconnect the wires from the transformer and check for continuity on each side of the transformer and see which side has burnt out. That may help you narrow down where the fault will be. If it's on the line side, turn off your breaker and have a look at the wiring. Trace it back to where it comes into the furnace. If its on the 24v side trace the wires and see what you can find. I wouldn't hazard a guess at where the short will be and it can be a real b$tch to find sometimes which is why you would probably be better off getting someone out to have a look at it for you.
