A Trane XL-80 started to make noise then died. It was installed around 1996 so it's 12 years old. One guy says the problem is the blower. What does that part cost? What else might be the problem?

It could be the blower motor or just the capacitor. May even be the combustion motor. Turn your thermostat to fan only and see if the fan comes on. Do the same for heat and verify the combustion motor stats first. If nothing happens, you may have bad control board or blown fuse or tripped breaker. Hard to say without being there.
