I have a Trane XL 80 model gas furnace and the blower motor died (I think). The furnace will ignite but the blower motor never kicks on. About a week ago, we noticed a burning plastic smell coming from the heater vents. Then the motor stopped running. I have tried to turn the motor "on" instead of being in "auto" and it still won't turn. The only fuse in the system that I can see is still good. Are these hard to replace? Thanks.

If it spins freely with power removed, you may only need a capacitor. Match microfarad and voltage on side of cap. (possibly 10mfd/ 370 volt)
It could also be a burned wire connection.
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Capacitors will hold a charge for a few minutes after removing power. Allow it to bleed down before handling it.

If the motor spins freely by hand there could possibly be a problem with the control board.

there should 4 or 5 wires coming from your motor to the board.white goes to neutral usually blue or blsck goes to heat.unplug white and the wire going to heat and you should get 12o volts off the board about 90 to 120 sec after unit ignites.if you do,check the capacitor.if you get corect MFD reading you need a new motor.
