Not sure about orange = O. So you think the orange (RC) should be O? And RED=RH should be jumpered to RC+R? What about the AUX? the instructions say if E and AUX terminals do not each have a wire connected, use a small piece of wire to connect them to each other. Can I just wire the unit like it is shown in the pictures?

G = green Rc & R = red (use provided jumper) Aux & E = white (use jumper) Y = yellow O/B = orange 170 = 7 190 = 0
Your battery life would improve (actually batteries wouldn't be needed) if you wired that blue wire to C at the stat and air handler.

Are you sure that orange wire wasn't O ? Your system needs an O wire and shouldn't have a separate rc and rh. you can check at your inside or outside unit wire connections to verify which color wires go to which terminals. Also be sure to set option 170 to 7, and 190 to 0
