I have a three zone hot water baseboard heating system. On zone one I have no heat. What I notice is that when I put the thermostat up to call for heatI hear a click but I don't hear the water flowing down like I do on the other two zones. The furnance runs a short while than turns off. The pressure valves on the lines above the furnance start to leak water then stop. Can anyone help me.

I have a circulator on each zone. I don't have a meter but I could borrow one from work. Is it worth me puting a spirovent in the system? One other thing, the first zone gets hot for the first four feet, the rest of the line is cold. I don't have any bleeding points on any of the baseboard. Today I shut the supply lines down on each zone, opened the flow control valve manually to zone one, hooked up a garden hose to the valve just above the supply line on zone one and proceeded to drain the line. I let it run for at least an hour, until I had a steady stream of water. Shut the valve off, turned on everything, started the furnance and still only the first four feet of pipe got hot on zone one and the pressure valves leaked on zone one & two, but this time for hours. Any suggestions.

Does your zone setup look like this? 1 and 2 are your purge setup. Close valves(2) on every zone. Then attach hose to drain on zone that you wish to purge(1). Open drain and this will purge the zone, usually only takes a few minutes. If you pinch the hose between your fingers you can feel the air bubbles or lack of. Close drain and repeat on other zones if you suspect air. I think those pressure valves you speak of are hy-vents. these are air elimination devises that dont work great and leak, should be replaced. If you have no scoop or spirovent you should consider adding one.

Duke,
I'm in the process of following your instructions now.

Did you get that meter? If purging doesn't help then you may need a meter to determine if you have a bad circulator or control. On second thought we can diagnose it without one but it would be nice to use.

Does your system have a circulator for each zone or a single circulator with zone valves on each zone? Do you have a meter?
You can't put a price on comfort! Be Safe.
