Sensible Heat - heat that when added to or removed from a substance causes a change of temperature and not a change of state.
Latent Heat- Heat that when added to or removed from a substance causes a change of state but not a change in temperature.

Duke,
I'm really glad you're on this site. I learn so much from your posts.
What do you think of Ashworth University on-line HVAC course?

DW, I copied that from the glossary provided by hvacmechanic.com. I'm no PHD, in fact my intelligence is balanced by a lack of common sense. To answer your question I don't know anything about online hvac courses but I can tell you that I had an excellent teacher in trade school, This guy has forgotten more than I'll ever know and I must give him partial credit for teaching me refrigeration theory and electrical. I feel that if I had a different teacher that I may have gotten skimped on the knowledge like tin-knockers. Having said that I'm unsure that you can get the whole picture online but I could be wrong. It's just nice to have a teacher that can explain the same thing ten different ways until you get it.

Duke, Got a kick out of that common sense comment. I just enrolled in Ashworth on-line HVAC TECH course. I am a disabled carpenter trying to train for HVAC design (I have formal experience and training in AutoCAD) I know some principles of physics and know my way around a construction site. I want the theory of HVAC, so in my case, I think I can benefit from the on-line course. The course cost $619.00 for a one year program. 19 Modules of 6 units. Wyotech gets $38,000 for their shop based program. I don't have $38,000, and can't get a student loan without a cosigner. Our power company, PG&E, offers free classes on HVAC, Nate Prep and a variety of other subjects. I am enrolling in those also. All the Best DW
PS: May I ask your year of birth, sir?

DW, that does sound great and for that price you've got nothing to lose. The year of my birth would be 1979. I'm at the tail end of generation x.
