Hi we currently have a Carrier 48GS-030060301 gaspack unit for our 1500 SF home. The evaporator coil needs to be replaced. Should we consider a new unit entirely with the efficiency upgrades? Our unit is approx. 7 yrs. old. We have been given estimates for 13 SEER and 14 SEER units from Carrier and Comfortmaker. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

7 years is not that old unless you have a very high usage/running hours like Texas etc. Don't know your climate/am in Canada. It may be worth repairing. Probably is a 10 SEER. Going to 13 is not going to make a huge difference. Have had issues with Carrier A coils up here and don't like any brand which uses Aluminum coils(some Tranes). Lennox has always used all copper coils and have very few failures on them. Upgrading to a least a 15 SEER would be worthwhile. 16-21 SEER are available in Lennox split systems.
