Recently, our outside compressor had a problem; it wouldn't shut off even when the system was turned off inside. I learned that there was a problem with the contactor. I scraped the corrosion clean and it worked again--for a day. Ever since then, I've had to clean in every day.

I need to get a new one, but I don't know what to get. I can't make out the words on the sticker. It's a Honeywell, and it say something like "52243A" and "42-24044-01" and "24V 60HZ" but I can't find anything matching those numbers online.

Any help? Is there a general one that would work? I know I can install it myself. We live in Houston and have to get this thing going!

Sol

1.5 pole 30 amp contactor with a 24 volt coil.

A 1.5 pole 40 amp contactor might be better but you would have to cut the Y connectoer off of your existing leads.

If you have a crankcase heater wired to opposite sides of 1 leg of your contactor avoid a 2 pole contactor. (Found with many Carrier units)

Post your make and model. My example is a common contactor. It would not work on a 2 speed or 3 phase unit.

I got the part and installed it...only on the new part, the T1 and T2 were opposite from my old part. I flipped it on...nothing.

I put everything back the way it was. Now the INSIDE unit won't turn on at all. It is not the breaker box. Is there anything I can do short of calling a technician? This is just terrible.

The outside one turns on fine when I press down on the contactor coil.

Thanks.

Check the low voltage fuse in your indoor unit.

Tough to tell without the make and model. Here are some examples...

Trane fancoil

it's a Ruud Silhouette II. I think I pulled out the fuse--a small, purple blade fuse labeled "E." It looks blown.

Could that be it?

Ha! I see. It's labeled "3" not E. It's a 3 amp fuse. Could this be the only problem on the indoor unit? If so, I could buy a few of them until I get this thing right.

Did it!

It's working. Wow. Only $32 all said and done. What would it have cost me to get someone to do it for me, I wonder?

Thanks a million for all of your help.
