I'm replacing a 24 year old Bryant heat pump thermostat with two mercury switches, part number P271-3456 with a Honeywell TH4210D. It controls a heat pump/air conditioner with electric thermal storage (equivalent to electric resistance backup) as second stage heating. The Honeywell manual and website do not cover my situation, as all 8 thermostat wires are connected to the thermostat and there are no jumpers:
Wire Color - Old Thermostat Terminal
Red - R Org - O Yel - Y Grn - G Brn - C Blu - E Wht - W1 Blk - W2
The TH4210D has the following wiring positions for heat pumps: C B R L O G Y AUX E
Can any one advis which wire needs to connect to the new thermostat
Thanks

I am curious about what W1 and W2 control. Do you have elec. resistance heat also? Is the ets 2 stage? If you don't know then answer this: Do you ever feel cold air blowing from vents when heat pump goes into defrost? You may need a 3 stage thermostat.

New terminal = wire(s) C = brown B = not used R = red L = not used O = orange G = green Y = yellow Aux = black and white E = blue
Note that Carrier uses brown for common instead of the blue used in my example...
