I found a new, in the box but 25 year old Coleman D.E.S. Model 3042-811 heat pump with Coleman 3600-841 air handler for $500. R22 refrigerant. Has thermostat and all parts. Thinking of replacing my existing GE Weatertron model BWR736A100A1 heat pump and BWV736A100A1 air handler.
Is this a foolish move?

I wouldn't do it. Imagine trying to get parts for it in 5 years. 10 years? Not to mention power consumtion. If it's the same size(capacity) and is installed correctly it will work fine but this decision lacks foresight. Probably lacks a warranty too. Nevermind. This is bigger than your existing system so you cannot use it. You have a 3 ton system. This one is 3.5 ton.
