I have a high pressure cut out control that i need to replace.It's a screw on type the unit is a Rheem.What i need to know do i have to do a pump down procedue or can i change it without losing my charge.

It depends on if there's a schrader valve at switch connection. If there is you can remove it without doing anything. If not(probably not) You will have to recover the charge from the unit with a recovery machine, do the repair, and replace the charge. Leave some pressure in the system. If it goes empty you will also have to pull a vacuum on the system before recharging. A pump down will not help you. Let me ask you this. Why must you replace that switch?
