Hey folks- have a 8 year old xe1000 located on the sothern side of house- last year put in new fan. New Blower wheel six months ago.
Unit has been working great- yesterday-hottest part of the day, blower on, compressor fan on, but compressor will not kick on. I turn it all off and wait a few hours- cooler temp. unit goes on and works fine. now getting close to hottest part of the day to see what happens- any ideas? could it be overheating and shutting down?? Should I shade the outside compressor with bushes because it is hot as hell out there from 2pm to 5pm everyday- thanks.

Your compressor may be shutting down on overload for 1 of several reasons. First you should remove the access panel on the outdoor unit and look at the coil. If you see schmeg clogging up the coil that would cause this type of problem. Trane's spine-fin units are difficult to clean without the proper chemicals. If it's dirty you should call a pro to service the system. I would not bother planting bushes as this will not help you.

Thanks for you for your help- I took off the fan cover and cleaned the coil with a garden hose from inside out- was not terribly dirty.
Can you kindly tell me what chemicals can be use to clean the coil.
Compressor has not shut down since the writting of my first post. Open to any other thoughts you may have?
Best

To clean a Trane you have to strip the whole unit and wash the outside of coil. This is the only real effective way to do it. Also without stripping it you can't even see if it was dirty. I would check this before assuming it's clean. I don't know the specific names of coil cleaners but any foaming condenser cleaner will do. Available at any supply house. Do not get this stuff on you, it burns. I'm not sure if Home Creepo sells it or not.
Do this too: Turn on a/c and wait 5 minutes. Grab the suction line at outdoor unit(larger copper pipe w/ insulation).
This pipe should be cool/cold and sweaty. If room temp that would indicate a possible low charge which could cause your problem.
