Hi all,
I am new to this forum and ran across it trying to find out if we were robbed! We called our regular service company to do some repairs (we use wood pellets heating) at a condo we are selling. The service guy spent 3 hours on the roof, came down and told me I needed to replace a "disconnect" after this was done, he tells me the compressor is bad!! Good news it is in warranty. Ha Ha. They knew we were in a bind because we had some one looking to buy, they came back the next day, two this time and replaced the "in warranty compressor".
I had to leave before they were finished so when we recieved a bill for $1232 we were completely shocked. Here is a break down on the Bill: Diagnosic charge $75, disconnect $200, and Warranty compressor $957. How can they get away with this? Is this normal? I have never had to replace a compressor before so I don't know. I really feel like I was taken advantage of.

Your inside air handler and outside condenser unit both need disconnect boxes installed for obvious safety reasons. Older homes will not have these, only cut off will be the breaker. Next time get the whole unit replaced, you'll get a much better warranty not to mention possible energy savings.

Overall, not a bad cost, however, I would question the $200 for the disconnect, if you actually had a compressor problem.
