I live in Northern Virginia (outside DC) and we have a Goodman HVAC for our upstairs.

Our Aux Heat kicked on last night and it felt like flames were shooting out of our ducts instead of nice, cool air. The filter is clean. Any ideas for troubleshooting this problem?

Thanks

JV

Pull the aux. heat fuses or open the circuit breaker, that should keep the heat from running. Then when you have the time and money, call a service company.

thanks jojo. Can I just disconnect 'W' wiring within thermostat?

Disconnecting it at the air handler would be better. The problem could be in your wiring. The outdoor unit also has the ability to energize W for defrost control.

OK--I'll give that a shot. Air handler is in our attic. Can you tell me where to find access to this in the air handler?

Thanks for the info.

It will be behind the panel that does not have copper and pvc pipes. Brown and white connect to the heat strip control.

(Notes are from a different post, but remove the white wires and tape or wire nut)

If the problem persists, it may be necessary to remove the red wires between M1 to breaker and M3 to breaker.

Ok Houston. You are spoiling us with your posting of the schematic and stuff.

Just had to post to tell you that you are my new hero.
