I have a RTH7400 with no display at all- just the green backlight. I took it off the wall and tried to check voltages at different points, but I'm not getting anything(I hope I'm doing this correctly). I would appreciate any help you could give me before I give up and call a professional. Thanks

Does it have no display when removed from the wall with fresh batteries?

It is the same on or off the wall(I did put fresh batteries in after the problem started)...nothing on the display- only the green backlight if I press a button.

Verify your old batteries haven't leaked, causing the batteriy terminals to corrode.
Jumper R to G (probably red to green) to verify that your fan will run.
If the fan runs when jumpered replace the stat.

The battery terminals look ok and the fan starts up as soon as I put the thermostat back on...When I pull it off the wall, the fan stops. Do you think the thermostat has gone bad? It is less than 2 years old, but I guess they don't make things like they used to(my old one lasted 10 or more years)Thanks for anymore info you can give me.
