how do you keep the high eff. furnace drains installed in an attic from freezing

You could run a heat tape on the condensate line and insulate it, or depending on how long the run is you might get by with a bright light bulb. We used to use the clamp on trouble lights, with the silver bell shaped shade to keep well pumps in garages from freezing.
