I have a Trane XL80 in my attic. Thermostat: set to Cool, fan set to Auto - audible click, hum for a minute or so, off. Nothing for a couple of minutes, and exact repeat. This repeats as long as I hold down the access door button or if the door is in place. The LED flashes continually with the thermostat set this way and with me holding down the access door switch. (More on that in a minute.)
Same when fan is set to On, whether unit is set for Cool, Heat or Off. Click, hum for a minute, off; repeat.
Outdoor unit is either low on freon or something. Line keeps freezing. This morning (after having unit off for ten or twelve hours, which sucks in the Deep South) things started to work again. But it ran all day, never getting below 78º with a 100% humidity reading. By 5:00 PM the internal temp was over 85º in the hallway at the thermostat! It was only 75º outside! Our windows are all painted shut and WE ARE MISERABLE! But it is Sunday in the Bible Belt so no one is open, even for emergencies.
We have a home warranty and the HVAC system is covered. I will look into this today. But the service charge is more than I have right now. (We are flat broke for the next month or so - long story.) I am sure that the freezing up/low refrigerant/whatever issue with the outdoor unit will be covered. But I am not so certain that the induction system will be. So tonight I tried to locate a reset switch somewhere. I looked pretty carefully and did not see one in either half of the unit.
When we turned it on this morning it was fine. The fan sounded normal; no squealing, screeing, etc. We turned it off to allow the outside ice buildup to melt. We decided to let it do so for about three hours. When we switched the unit back on we got the above-mentioned symptoms.
Can I, a man with a mild fear of all things electrical, do anything about this myself? Is there a Reset button on the induction blower motor that I have failed to locate? I read the electronics package box that shows what the codes for the LED mean, and it also points to a location with three dip switches and what the various settings do. But I failed to locate these switches. So anything is possible, including my thorough search having missed a big, red Reset button somewhere. The code the LED is throwing is just steady blinks. Since I have nothing to compare it to the speed is not easy to determine. The speed of the blinking has no meaning to me out of context, and seem to indicate a problem with the heating system itself and not the blower. So much for the LED codes.
Other facts: I reached in to check the motor rotation. The drum rotates very freely and smoothly, without noise or resistance. The filter is cleaned every month or two.
When the unit starts its humming the outside unit comes on and I can plainly hear the sound of fluid flowing through pipes. I am assuming that this is the "cold stuff" ginned up by the outside compressor coming in and "charging up the system" so to speak, giving the unit something chilly to circulate through the ductwork. This only happens with Cool selected and not when the fan is On or the unit is set to Heat. (Thank goodness!)
I have tried to give an accurate and full account of what is happening with my HVAC system. I do not suspect that the two issues are interrelated save that the one caused the other through overheating/overuse.
So how can I get the cold stuff into my home once again? The only windows that open in this house are in one room. The others are all painted shut. (Home built in 1939 with heavily painted, double hung windows throughout.)
Thanks in advance for any help that can be given!

Can we bump our own posts on this forum? Or is this a no-no in this community? I need some specific information if anyone here has it to share. Thanks, all!
