I have a 5 yr. old Multi-Stage Heat Pump Goodman CPKE60-1A. I replaced the thermostat (yes, with a multi-stage one) and it seemed to work but it didn't get cool: the outdoor unit is not starting. The thermostat (24v) seems to call for it, as I hear a HUMMING at the outdoor unit. I read here that the contactor fails quite often. Mine is NOT PULLING IN. Moreover, I tryed to push it with a screwdriver: it goes when everything is powered off but IT WON'T move when it's called by the thermostat. What should I try? Please illuminate me!

Verify that you have C (common) connected to the correct wire color (at the fancoil).
The function of blue, black and brown vary. One of them is C.
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Thanks for the advice, it makes perfect sense. But I was wrong: the contactor actually WAS pulled in (I do it alone, that fooled me). I then realized that the capacitor might be busted. It's a 370V dual (start/run) 60uF/5uF. I bought the tool to check it (Lowes has one for $37) and it shows 5uF on one side and 4.6uF on the other. I assume that the later might be bad (4.6uF instead of 60uF). I ordered the capacitor (amazing price variation: $35-$155!!!) and hope I resist until it comes. I'll post the results.
Million thanks, Houston! P.S. This forum is great.
