I am finishing the bonus room above our attached garage. The area is 530 sqft with 7' ceilings and sloped ceiling down to 4' kneewalls and three outside 7' walls with one north facing window. Flat ceiling has R-30 insulation, sloped has R-19 with air baffles above, and verical walls have R-15. There is a full bath and a closet. Seems like most of the online calculators suggest approx. 12,000 BTU for a/c. Does this seem correct for this space. I am leaning towards either the Amana model PTH123B50AM (12,000 btu a/c) or the PTH153B50AM (14,000 btu) both with 5 kw backup elec. heat. Which of these units, if either, would be the best choice. Would something else be better? I can't run any ducts from the main part of the house to this space. I live in Central Illinois and the roof gets full sun on one side in the morning and the other side in the afternoon. Thanks for any guidance you can give me.
