What is the maximum temperature that should be applied to the reversing valve?

Zero point zero. Use the proper sized torch tip, thoroughly wrap the valve with a wet rag. Get the work hot, apply the filler material, and get off of the valve. Don't dilly-dally. Stay off of the valve body and cap tubes.
