I just bought this house and tried to start the furnace up for the first time The previous owners had turned the pilot light off. I got the light lit but when I turn the thermostat to heat and set the temp control above the room temp the burners wont ignite. The blower runs when turned to on but blows cool air. Both the previous owners and my home inspector said everything was working fine. Am I doing something wrong or am I stuck having to pay soemone to come check it out? Thanks

After you lit the pilot did you turn the knob on the gas valve to 'ON'? If not then thats your problem. Previous owners and home inspectors lie like a sidewalk.

Could be lots of other problems. If you are handy with an electrical meter check if there is 24 volts from W to C on the terminal strip/board if it has one. Thermostat should be calling for heat at that time with the door switch pressed in. If not then you may have a bad thermostat or other problem. If you seriously want more help post some digital pics of the front of the furnace, burner area and with the doors off at photobucket or imageshack.us so we can see what we are dealing with.
