My carrier furnace is about 8 years old and it is starting to show its age. I set my thermostat at 21 degrees and the furnace does not even come on. The status light will flash with one short followed by a long flash, then two consecutive short flashes. About two winters ago, I phoned a local company to service my heating system. The technician lubricated the bearings and cleaned the furnace. The igniter was also replaced because according to him, it needed replacing at a cost of $400.00. It had been working efficiently until after a few months after it was serviced that I noticed that the furnace is not coming on at my set temperature. I phoned the same Tech again and was told that it might be the temperature sensor. The cost of replacement plus labour is a whopping $350.00. I am a bit concern about his diagnosis of my furnace because he might be guessing. He didn't even diagnose the flashes of the status light. What do you think is the problem? Can you help me before I spend another $350.00. I would really appreciate it very much. Thank you and I am looking forward to hearing from all of you here at HVAC.
