I want to do a DIY replacement of a 9 yr old thermostat that is not very accurate.
I have a Heil Gas pack on 1st floor (electric A/C and gas furnace). On the second floor I have an electric heat pump.
I purchased the Honeywell RTH7500D 7-day programmable thermostat as the replacements for both the upstairs and downstairs. The package says it is heat pump compatible. (I'm hoping it's also the correct choice for a gas pack)
I've read in your forum the wiring may be tricky for installation on this model thermostat. Should I call a professional to have them installed instead of trying myself? The only electrical DIY experience I have is installing light fixtures and switches.
I called to quote the installation from our regular HVAC service and they said starts at $325 for the thermostat installs, may be higher after they actually come out. Does that seem like a reasonable price? Seems high to me. If high, what's a "normal" range for this service? (We're in the Southeast U.S., medium sized city)
A call to our electrician for a quote says he can do it, but its really a HVAC job.
Your recommendations?
THANKS! ---DIYgal

Write down the existing terminal = color combination for each stat and post it here.
I will gladly assist you.
Be sure to remove power before removing any wires.
Good thermostat choice.
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Sorry for the delay, I'm just getting started on this DIY project! Thanks for your help!
I might be able to figure it out from the instruction booklet, but have a couple of questions...
1) Would the Heil Gas pack on 1st floor (electric A/C and gas furnace) be considered a Single stage heat+cool or Multistage heat+cool ?
2) instructions say thermostat works on 24v or 750mV systems, will not work on 120/240 volt systems. What are the chances that I have a 120/240 volt system? Don;t want to blow anything up.
THANKS! ---DIYgal
