I dropped a family ring into the floor vent. The vent plates don't come up (wooden ones that are sealed with the hardwood floors), but I can't see the ring, anyway...I'm sure it went down into the duct work. I can access the duct work in the basement...it's the cylindrical shaped shiney duct work. It levels off a few feet from where the ring dropped. Is it possible to cut into the duct work, feel for the ring, and repair it? Or would I be better off just calling a professional? Any help would be appreciated!

I would call a professional. He can dismantle it neatly/retrieve the ring/seal it properly so no air leaks. Not an easy task for you to do.
