Hi everyone, i recently purchased and installed a Globe 59005 programmable thermostat. Everything works great, except one thing bothers me - i need to run it off batteries. It has the option of 24v powering but my old thermostat (the round mercury type) didnt have power to it. When I installed the new thermostat i also removed a humidifier control box next to it (the humidifier has long since been removed also). my question is can i use the two wires to my advantage and power my thermostat with it? i followed the diagram in the install manual and hooked up these wires:
OB/W2 ----> nothing R ----> red W1 ----> white C ----> nothing G ----> green Y ----> yellow
I'm guessing that i can just hook up the common (c) to one of the old humidifier wires and consequently hook that wire to the common on the furnaces transformer. Am I correct in assuming this or am i going to blow my transformer or thermostat? I did check the common and 24v lines off the transformer and showed just over 28v if i remember right. The problem is like i stated - i dont want to run this off batteries alone because when i replace them i'll need to totally reprogram the thermostat (not a huge problem, but an unneeded inconvenience). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you Aussie

yes.
Make sure you have a direct C ---> C connection with the wire.
