I have a York furnace which is 5 years old. It will light, then shut off three times as the safety mechanism kicks in. Had a lightning strike 18 mos ago. Since then have replaced air conditioner capacitator. Same on microwave. Furnace worked fine last year. Where should I start?

The burners stay for (approximately) 72, 40, then 34 seconds before permanent failure. Does this make a difference in your response? Of course, once we disconnect electrical, we can start the cycle over again.......and again.......and again. Thanks

Actually yes, since each duration is shorter and starting at 72 sec, you may be overheating your furnace. Have you checked the filters? Also verify there is lots of air flow threw the vents.

Let me start again. The pilot and burners will fire up just fine, but after about 15 seconds, they shut down. The process repeats two more times before it terminates for good (just like the manual states). During this time, the blower also turns on. The only way I can get the blower to turn off is to turn off the power supply to the unit. If I turn the heat off at the thermostat, the blower continues to operate.

Depending on the flame sensing device, it may be able to be cleaned. Look for a solid rod with a single wire attached to it.

It sounds as though its going off on flame failure. Since the cycles are so short. It’s possible it’s tripping on limit but 15 seconds sounds too soon so concentrate on the flame sensor. Either it’s dirty, or when the main flame starts it’s not in the flame or the module is not sensing flame. This of course is an educated “guess”. Being there and actually seeing it is a totally different thing from reading a comment.

P.S. the blower staying on and the process of having to shut off the power is normal. This is to notify you and make you aware of a serious problem.
