I have a Carrier gas furnace. It appears to be working fine then one morning we wake up to a cold house. The pilot is lit, the blowers come on for about 30 secs to a minute then cut off. The fan comes on and blows in the house for about 3-4 minutes then cuts off for about 5-10 minutes and will come on again blowing cold air, for another 3-4 minutes. I have turned off the circuit breaker, turned off power to the furnace, cleaned the filter, all to no avail. About two years ago, it did this same thing and a repair man came out three times and finally replaced a circular UFO looking piece. This part should last longer than two years, right?? Please help, we are cold!!!!

It is a Carrier Crusader model #58DHC075-101 JC
the series # is the same with a serial number of 310307-7006. I bought this house 4 years ago and have no idea how old the unit is.

The only suggestions I can make at this time are, Verify the flame roll out switch is closed ( look for a little red button near the burners). Check and verify there is no condensation in the pressure switches tubing and the venting is clear.

I found the red button and pushed it in, I also took a piece of white flexible tubing loose from a circular part (pressure switch?) and there was no condensation there. What I see is a piece of metal that glows amber then the burners come on for approximately 3 seconds and then go off, the fan continues to blow with the burners coming on about 5-10 seconds later. I am not sure what vent you are referring to, as I am a girl :) and know nothing about this sort of thing. Thanks for your help thus far.

You originally said the pilot was lit is this the case. From this last comment It appears as though it is not. Now with the mention of this glowing It appears as though it off on flame failure do you see any flame ?

No I do not see a flame now, is that what I need to do relight the pilot?

According to the information I have, this is an electronic ignition furnace. There is nothing to relight. If do you do not see a flame, some one is either playing a joke on you and has turned off the gas or you will need a technician to diagnose the gas situation.

The gas situation is fine, I have a water heater and the pilot is lit on that. I thought you meant to look for a pilot like that on the furnace. When I look in the furnace it glows red and then the burners all kick on,but they only stay on for a few seconds, go out and then relight again in about 5 seconds. It is like it is trying to heat, but something is causing it to turn off and on.

Ok their not sensing the flame is present then. Look for a solid wire with a single wire connected to it. Clean up this bar and retry it. This igniter if it’s gray/black in color it’s extremely fragile so be careful around it.

Xenos,
You are an angel. I cleaned the bar off and although it didn't really seem dirty, that did the trick, so far. Things are warming up and we are toasty once again. Thank you so much. You probably saved me about $100.00.
