Hi have a Lennox HP22-461-P2 heatpump.

It had been intermittently blowing the compressor fuse (50 amps), about once per day. Called the service tech, said the charge was slightly low, the compressor was overamping (23 amps), and the capacitor was out of spec (pulling 28 MFD).
He replaced the capacitor, recharged the system (added 1 lb R-22), and left.

Two days ago the system hard died, I opened it up and discovered that the replacement capacitor (a York 40 MFD unit) was fried. It had clearly arced out of the capacitor to ground.

Is my compressor shot, or did I just get a bum capacitor?

Thanks in advance for your help

Odds are it’s not shot, however there is obviously a problem, such as it’s overload may be shot therefore you may need a time delay.

Xenos.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

Great. Do you now if this Lennox unit has a time delay? It seems to have a fair amount of circuitry.

Would the failed time delay account for the intermittently blown fuses I originally had?

Also is losing 1lb of R-22 a significant amount? COuld a leak be contributing?
