I have been remodeling my house of late and have been taking advantage of the local "building materials" recycling center in my area. The other day I notices a little furnace that looks like it would suit my needs just fine. I can get it for $100. Its very clean looking and doesn't look burned or abused, or worn out in any visible way. My questions: Does someone out there know something about this unit? Are manuals available? Is there a website that details this model. Is it a quality unit? The only ID I could find on the unit was: " Day and Night Plus 80 High Efficiency gas furnace". I couldn't see a serial number, or date of mfg., but inside were wiring diagrams and schematics. Any input from out there would be very helpful.

I went back to see if it was still there and it was. I found the spec plate but could not read everything on it as it was dark and I forgot to take a flashlight. I did get the following: Model: 376cav024070 Series E
sn: 4094A25432 Input 69k btu.

There was a code for the week and year of manufacture in the first 4 digits of the serial number so I at least know about when this unit was built. It has a standard 120vac plug on it, a natural gas hookup line. and a wire hanging out of the unit which I assume is the thermostat wire. It has what looks to be a 3 or 4 inch exhaust vent coming out the top front and behind that is an opening taking up the rest of the top. You can see the blower housing in the hole. IT looks like this is where the air ducts attach. I didn't see any filters, but the diagrams on the inside panel detail two of them, but i don't know where they go.
The space I'm trying to heat is a 4 room downstairs, 2 room upstairs house with a 900 sq ft. footprint. IT was built in 1911 and has 9 1/2 ft. ceilings. The only insulation on the exterior walls is what I have added where I remodeled the bathroom and kitchen, approx 1/5 of the exterior wall around the house. The windows are single pane. I do not plan to change the windows or add more insulation to the walls.
The heater in there now is wall mounted, gas (33k btu input). Its installed in one corner of the house between two windows. ITs basically a piece of junk. It needs to be replaced. The use I am thinking of for the "Day & Night" furnace is to install it in the basement and duct it up 3 or four places in the house on the first floor only. The upstairs doesn't really need a heat vent as the heat from downstairs naturally comes up the stairway and warms it up nicely.
