Hello,
I have a Heil 700 heatpump system and I have found that there are times (getting more frequent) that the AC will be on, the inside blower unit is going but there is warm air coming out of the vents. I go out back to the outside unint and sometimes it is just sort of humming. I depress the reset switch on the pump and the fan starts and all is good. Just today the outside unit would shut down although the air is still on and the inside unit blowing, when I go to reset, the compressor or whatever kicks on, the the outside fan that cools the unit (I guess thats what it does) does not come on. The funny thing is.. when the outside unit is humming with no fan, I have to "kick-start" the fan by spraying it with a hose and it runs for about an hour.

I know I need to call a repair man, and I will after pay day, but I just wanted to hear what it could be before a repair man comes out here and charges me mega bux.

Thanks,

Mike

Make sure to check the indoor air filter and verify everything is clean.

Xenos.

The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.

Pull the disconnect to the outside unit. Now take a pencil or stick and spin the fan. Does it rotate freely and quietly? If so, I'd check the run capacitor for the fan motor. It should be located in the connection box on the unit. Look at the capacitor (aluminum case. cylinder shape) and see if it's bulging or looking funny. It may have three wires or there may be 2 capacitors with two wires each. Find the wiring diagram and check to see which is for the fan. You can replace it easily but be sure to get the exact same capacitance (micro farads) values as are on the wiring diagram or on the current capacitor.

I agree with Freon... may be a bad start capacitor which is easy to replace. Also check to see if the wires going to the fan motor from the contactor are tight...

Of course check all this with disconnect pulled...
