I have a carrier heat pump and a york furnace. Everything in my home is ran by electric.

My New LUX Digital Thermostat is hooked up as follows:

Brown - E
Green - G
Yellow - Y
Red - R
Orange - O
White - W2
Blue - B

The thermostat also has W3 and L terminals, but nothing is hooked to them.

The old thermostat was a HoneyWell (not digital), the terminals were:
W, B, G, R, X, H, O, Y, T

My problem is. I have a Lux thermostat in my home...its for heat pump. I went to turn on my heat for the first time this season and it won't turn on...not sure why...all summer, my ac worked, so I tried turning on my ac, but it won't turn on either. Would anyone know what the issue could be.

Please help me!

Charlie

Where did the brown wire goto on the old Thermostat. In fact if u could tell me were the wires went to the old Thermostat that would help alot.
U may have blown the transformer or fuse in the air handler.

Mastertech,

Do you have any other thoughts on what the problem can be....is my thermostat hooked up wrong....just seems weird if it is, because my a/c worked all summer long.

Thanks for you help!

I'm pretty sure the old one went like this...it's been since may

brown - X
Green - G
yellow - Y
Red - R
Orange - O
White - W
Blue - B

Like I said I did it in may, so I think this is it....the air worked all summer.

Is the airhandler the Heat pump?

For what i could find on York inside, i think this is right
X is malfunction light
B is common
O reversing valve
G fan
Y contactor
W aux heat
SO here goes
-----------------------------------------------------------
G = green
Y = yellow
R = red
O = orange
W2 jumped to E = white
L = Brown (not real sure)
B = blue
------------------------------------------------------------
I am confused too, because even the minor change would not keep the thermostat from bringing on the heat pump part of the heating. Once changes been made try emergence heat first then try heat pump. But the good news is that the fan runs in the on mode. Check the breaker for the outside unit to make sure it didnt get tripped.
Good luck and let me know what happened.

The L terminal on the lux thermostat doesn't have anything that I can hook the brown wire to it. Its empty, all it say is L. Also how would you jump W2 to E...what do I use?

Questions, if I have it hooked up wrong, why did my a/c work all summmer? I just find it weird.

Brown won't be X, I belive X is common and if I am not mistaken the Old B was common and not changover like the new B.

Xenos,

What are you suggesting I do? I don't understand what you wrote. Is my new thermostat hooked up wrong?

My a/c worked all summer long...I never tried the heat. I just tried turning on the heat the other night, but it won't start. Neither will my a/c.

If my new thermostat is hooked up wrong, how should it be...would appreciate any response....we are very cold and my wife is expecting.

I missunder stood, I thought this was the new one.

"I'm pretty sure the old one went like this...it's been since may"

brown - X
Green - G
yellow - Y
Red - R
Orange - O
White - W
Blue - B

I still wonderabout that Blue wire though. are you sure B is common on the Lux and not the changover?

the new Lux Thermostat is....

Y = Compressor Relay
W2 = Aux Heat Relay
G = Fan Relay
B = Heat Changeover Valve
O = Cool Changeover Valve
E = Emergency Heat Relay
R = manual says nothing under that, but the line goes write through B, O, and E

Try this (dont use lux products)

G = green
Y = yellow
R = red
O = orange
W2 jumped to E = white

Brown Dont use
blue dont use
After rewiring does emergency heat come on?

My furnace down stairs does make a humming sound, so I assume there is power. ALso the fan works from the thermostat. I usually set it on "Auto", but I wanted to see if it worked, and it does if I put it on "On".

so something works. but thats all.

My guess is a blown transformer caused by the B terminal. B was most likely common on the old thermostat and it is Reversing in heating on the new. So therefore when the system turned on in the heat mode it created a direct short.
